Contranym Park
A contronym is a word that holds two contradictory meanings, like "dust," which can refer to adding a layer of dust or removing it. In a similar vein, the current use of much of the site is for parking space. However, there are ample hardscape parking areas nearby. By employing seemingly contradictory actions for mutually beneficial outcomes, I believe I've created a park that serves both the native Colorado Shortgrass Prairie and the CU Boulder community. I've aptly named it Contronym Park.
Although numerous instances of contronyms exist on the site, the most prominent is "cleave," which can mean both to combine and to separate. Nature and humans can either harmonize or conflict with each other. By separating the two, space is carved out for both to coexist. The decision was to cleave them apart, allowing for a harmonious balance between nature and human activity.
